ATEX Design

Safe, compliant, and robust electrical design is essential in any environment where explosive atmospheres may be present. Our ATEX electrical design services are led by a certified CompEx Ex12 Application Design Engineer, ensuring every project is developed with a deep understanding of hazardous area requirements and industry best practice.

We provide end‑to‑end electrical design solutions for ATEX‑classified sites, including:
• Hazardous area equipment selection and specification
• ATEX‑compliant control system and panel design
• Earthing and bonding strategies for explosive atmospheres
• Documentation, drawings, and technical files for regulatory compliance
• Design verification, assessment, and support during installation

Built on BS EN 60079 Compliance

Every design is developed in accordance with the BS EN 60079 series of standards, ensuring full compliance with the recognised framework for electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres. This includes:

• Application of appropriate protection concepts (Ex d, Ex e, Ex i, etc.)

• Correct zoning, temperature classification, and equipment category selection

• Verification that all components meet the required ATEX/IECEx certification

• Documentation and design practices that support conformity assessment

Functional Safety

Our functional safety electrical design services are led by a TÜV SÜD‑certified Functional Safety Engineer (FSEng), ensuring every system is developed with a clear focus on risk reduction, reliability, and lifecycle compliance. Our services include:

  • Safety instrumented system (SIS) design and specification
  • Safety requirements specifications (SRS) and functional design documentation
  • SIL determination, allocation, and verification
  • Electrical design for safety‑related control systems
  • Integration of sensors, logic solvers, and final elements
  • Independent design review and verification activities
  • Support throughout the full safety lifecycle, from concept to operation

All functional safety design work is carried out in compliance with the BS EN 61508 (Functional Safety of Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic Safety‑Related Systems) and BS EN 61511 (Functional Safety for the Process Industry Sector) standards.

Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Design
